ラソステロールは、母乳に存在するコレステロールの代謝産物です。ラソステロールはラソステロール5-デサチュラーゼにより、コレステロールの前駆物質である7-デヒドロコレステロールに分解されます。ラテロステロール-d7はラテロステロールの重水素化誘導体です。

アプリケーション

ラソステロール-d7は、母乳中のステロール定量のためのガスクロマトグラフィー質量分析（GC–MS）や、液体クロマトグラフィによる高分解能質量分析（LC–HRMS）の内部標準物質として用いられてきました。

生物化学的／生理学的作用

ラテロステロール値は、コレステロール値の直接指標であり、代謝異常の解明に役立つちます。脳腱黄色腫症（CTX）およびラソステロール症には、ラテロステロール高値が関与しています。酵素ラソステロール5-デサチュラーゼ（SC5D）の不活化は、ラソステロール症病変でのラソステロール蓄積をもたらします。
