ジメチルスルホキシド(DMSO)は極性溶媒です。 求電子試薬(塩化オキサリル)で活性化したDMSOは各種アルコール(一級、二級、アリル、ベンジル、立体障害のある、および二環アルコール)の酸化に用いられています。カルボニル化合物は反応生成物として作られます。 DMSOは非常に安定性に優れているため、メチルセロソルブに使用する代替溶媒として提案されています。

注意

容易に過冷却状態となり、室温で徐々に再融解します。凝固している場合は室温に放置すると、劣化させることなく液体に戻すことができます。
