Claudin-6 (UniProt: P56747; also known as Skullin) is encoded by the CLDN6 (also known as UNQ757/PRO1488) gene (Gene ID: 9074) in human. Claudin-6 is a multi-pass membrane protein that plays a major role in tight junction-specific obliteration of the intercellular space. Claudin-6 has two extracellular domains (aa 29-81 and 138-160), four transmembrane domains (aa 8-28, 82-102, 117-137, and 161-181), and three cytoplasmic domains (aa 1-7; 103-116, and 182-220). It acts as a receptor for hepatitis C virus (HCV) entry into hepatic cells. Claudin-6 is expressed in the liver, in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and hepatocarcinoma cell lines. It is also expressed specifically in undifferentiated stem cells and can serve as a marker to purify stem-like cells from a mixed cell population. It is shown to play an important role during mouse embryonic epithelium formation and the development of endodermal tissues and its level of expression is correlated with dedifferentiation and malignant proliferation of epithelial cells. This ZooMAb recombinant monoclonal antibody, generated by our propriety technology, offers significantly enhanced specificity, affinity, reproducibility, and stability over conventional monoclonals.
