Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin found in various foodstuffs. The benefits of vitamin C may include protection against immune system deficiencies and cardiovascular disease, hyperpigmentation treatment, skin protection, anti-aging, iron absorption, and RBC production. It is used to treat scurvy, and it also functions as an antioxidant. Vitamin C is useful in the biosynthesis of collagen, L-carnitine, and neurotransmitters.

Application

Ascorbic acid may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by chromatography and spectrophotometric techniques.
