Cell Line Origin

Human breast carcinoma

Cell Line Description

Tumorigenic in immunosuppressed mice and form colonies in semisolid medium. Neither oestrogen receptors nor endogenous viruses were detected.

Application

Hs 578T has been used to measure the calcium-dependent binding of cadherin-11 and N-cadherin. It has also been used to study the changes in gene expression induced by insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP-2).

Culture Medium

DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10μg/ml Bovine Insulin + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:3 to 1:6 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
