Descripción

General description

Sodium phosphate dibasic (NaH₂PO₄), also known as disodium phosphate, is a commonly used phosphate salt in biochemistry research due to its versatile properties. It is a key component in the preparation of phosphate buffer saline (PBS) and phosphate buffer, a commonly used buffer solution in many biological applications. In addition to its buffer properties, NaH₂PO₄ is also used as a precipitating agent to form silver orthophosphate (Ag₃PO₄) powders, making it a valuable tool in many laboratory settings. Disodium phosphate is also a widely used emulsifier in dairy products such as cheese and other foods.

Application

Sodium phosphate dibasic has been used:

• as a component of phosphate buffered saline (PBS)
• as a component of buffer for the preparation of cryopreservation diluent
• in the preparation of McIlvaine buffer (citrate-phosphate buffer) for toluidine blue staining
• in the preparation of the S9 mix for the Ames test, and SOS Chromotest[1]
• in the preparation of calcium deficient hydroxyapatite (CDHA) paste during the fabrication process of the CDHA scaffold
