Gas and Vent Filters

Air or vent filters, cartridge and capsule formats for sterile venting

Aervent® gas and vent cartridge and capsule filters

Gas, vent or air filters containing hydrophobic membrane are used throughout biomanufacturing as air vents to maintain near-ambient pressure in processing tanks and closed systems. These filters prevent the entry of adventitious microorganisms and the release of product aerosols to the environment.

Gas filter selection is guided by filter position, sizing, sterilization, and need for integrity testing. Our sterilizing air filters are available in both cartridge and single-use capsule formats and are supported by the documentation you need for compliance with regulatory requirements. Each sterilizing-grade filter is integrity tested during manufacturing.

Sterilizing Gas or Vent Filter Options

  • Millipore Express® SPG (Sterile Phobic Gamma) capsule filters contain sterilizing-grade hydrophobic 0.2 μm polyethersulfone (PES) membrane. These gamma-compatible filters are the preferred choice for single-use gas filtration and venting applications.
  • Aervent® capsule and cartridge filters contain sterilizing-grade 0.2 µm hydrophobic polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane and are recommended for critical venting steps that need validated bacterial and viral retention capabilities. Our smaller Aervent®-50 capsules are designed for small-scale gas line and air venting applications that need a filter capable of removing particles and microorganisms greater than 0.2 µm. These filters can be sterilized by autoclave treatment.
  • Aerex® cartridge filters contain a sterilizing-grade 0.2 μm polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane and are a cost effective option for bacteria and virus removal from moist gas streams. These filters can be sterilized by autoclave treatment.

Compliance

All Millipore Express®, Aervent® and Aerex® filters are designed, developed, and manufactured in accordance with a Quality Management System approved by an accredited registering body to an ISO 9001 Quality Systems Standard, and are supported by a certificate of quality.
