Analytical Method for Zinc (total) in Building Materials

This Spectroquant® Zinc test enables quantification of zinc ions in various waters. In alkaline solution zinc ions react with pyridylazoresorcinol (PAR) to form a red complex that is measured photometrically.

Sample preparation - total content:

Place 200 mg of the finely powdered material with 5 g potassium hydrogen sulfate in a DURAN® test tube, mix and heat gently in a Bunsen flame until a clear orange-colored melt is obtained and no more gas is given off. Allow to cool, add water for analysis to dissolve most of the residue and transfer the suspension to a 100-ml volumetric flask. Adjust to the mark with water for analysis and mix well.
Filter through a paper filter and adjust the pH to 5 - 8.

Analysis:

Determine with the Spectroquant® zinc test kits.

Calculation:

Zinc (total) content in % = analysis value in mg/l Zn x 0.05
