General description

Base/Neutrals Compounds 2B - WP proficiency testing material is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. This sample is also referred to as non-Potable Water or Water Pollution sample. The PT portfolio allows our test components to offer significant performance data to monitor and prove competency to customers, accreditation bodies or both.

Supelco® is a global proficiency testing (PT) provider that manufactures best-in-class environmental and pharmaceutical PT products. Most water PT samples are available as concentrates or ready-to-use volumes giving the end-user flexibility in selecting samples that will fit their exact needs. Our WP program is designed to meet the quality assurance requirements, thereby ensuring the analytical competence of your laboratory.
These samples are typically provided in duplicate for use in case of lab mishap, for QC purposes or to analyze multiple methods.

Type of PT Scheme: Water analysis - Water Pollution (WP)

Matrix: Water Pollution/Wastewater

Randomly contains a minimum 80% of the analytes listed. Values of analytes vary lot to lot.

All information regarding the use of Base/Neutrals Compounds 2B - Water Pollution (WP) proficiency testing standard can be found in the reporting packet which will be available to download at PT Portal.

Features and Benefits

We have a vast portfolio of environmental PT schemes with "fit-for-purpose" samples to help you meet the needs of the laboratory.

Our proficiency testing (PT) program is a benchmark to:

  • provide staff with an insight into their laboratory′s performance, to verify the accuracy and reliability of their testing process
  • provide a comparison of performance with that of other laboratories, nationally and internationally
  • test and educate staff, provide a better understanding of the impact of incorrect results and identify areas where there may be problems
  • provide an independent evaluation of laboratory performance
  • demonstrate to clients, colleagues and accreditation bodies that there is a commitment to quality

Preparation Note

  • This PT sample is packaged as a 1.5 mL concentrate.
  • The solvent for this sample is acetone.
  • The PT sample is not preserved.

Sample Preparation

  • This ampule contains a concentrate of Base/Neutral compounds in acetone.
  • When prepared according to instructions, the concentration of each analyte will be less than 200 μg/L.
  • To prepare solution, add 1 L of reagent water to a 2-L separatory funnel.
  • Open ampule PE1171-2ML (be careful to avoid cuts on glass) and transfer exactly 1.0 mL of the concentrate to the separatory funnel.
  • Mix well.
  • The sample is now ready for analysis.
  • For calculations, assume initial sample volume was 1000 mL.

Matrix Modifier

  • MMW - 001 is intended to modify the products to simulate a wastewater sample.
  • The final dilution will replace the use of DI (Reagent Grade) water for the preparation of the appropriate CRM/QC sample.
  • The sample will add turbidity and TSS to the final volume.
  • These do not affect the properties of the analytes of interest in the final sample if prepared according to instructions.

Note: Filtration may be necessary as required by your method.
  • To use the matrix modifier simply mix Wastewater Matrix Modifier as specified in the MMW-001 instructions. Use this solution in place of the reagent grade water in the instructions above.

Storage and Stability

Please refer to sample label for expiration date, specific storage temperature, and specific storage conditions.
