Glucokinase recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Działania biochem./fizjol.

GCK (Glucokinase) is a glucose homeostasis regulatory protein encoding the hexokinase 4. It is expressed in the hepatocytes and pancreatic β cells. GCK is mainly involved in the glucose metabolism pathway and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. It catalyzes the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate (G6P). It drives the initial step of two pathways, glycolysis, and glycogen synthesis. Mutation in GCK gene causes non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), and maturity onset diabetes of the young, type 2 (MODY2).

Cechy i korzyści

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Insulin, the most potent anabolic hormone, is critical for somatic growth and metabolism in vertebrates. Type 2 diabetes, which is the primary cause of hyperglycemia, results from an inability of insulin to signal glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Our previous study showed...

Glucokinase (GCK) plays a role in glucose metabolism and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. Rare mutations in GCK cause MODY. We investigated whether common variation (minor allele frequency ≥0.01) in GCK is associated with metabolic traits and type 2 diabetes. Four exonic...
