General description

Recombinant DNA polymerase I is a DNA-dependent 5′→ 3′ polymerase that has both 5′ → 3′ and 3′ → 5′ exonuclease activities.


Specific Activity: 8,000 U/mg
At least 8,000 U/mg, using poly [d(A-T)] as template at +37°C, according to Richardson.
Source: The enzyme is the product of the E. coli pol A gene, which has been cloned into an overproducing lysogenic strain.


Tested for the absence of endonucleases according to the current Quality Control procedures.

Unit Definition

One unit is the enzyme activity which incorporates 10 nmol of total nucleotide into an acid-precipitable fraction in 30 minutes.
