General description

Ethyl Acetate (EtOAc) is an organic compound with a characteristic sweet smell. It is commonly used as a coating solvent for paints, lacquers, and varnishes. It is also used as an extraction solvent and reagent in many pharmaceutical industries.

Application

Ethyl acetate can be used as:
  • A reactant to synthesize cinnamyl acetate via lipase-catalyzed transesterification reaction between ethyl acetate and cinnamyl alcohol.
  • A reaction medium to synthesize solid electrolyte Li3PS4 by the reaction between Li2S and P2S5.
  • A solvent in the synthesis of 6-O-acetyl glycosides via selective acetylation of carbohydrates in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfuric acid. 6-O-acetyl glycoside derivatives are applicable as precursors for the synthesis of complex oligosaccharides.
  • A reactant to prepare geranyl acetate by transesterification of geraniol.
  • A green solvent in solid-phase peptide synthesis.

Features and Benefits

EtOAc is an environmentally safe solvent/reagent.
