General description

Urethane is used as an anesthetic in animals, since it shows minimal effects on cardiovascular and respiratory systems and maintenance of spinal reflexes. It can also be used in the synthesis of poly(urethane urea) segmented block, which can find applications as blood sacs in ventricular assist devices and total artificial hearts.
