β丙氨酸是一种 β− 氨基酸，是泛酸的组分，是组氨酰基抗氧化剂二肽肌肽和鹅肌肽生物合成中的限速氨基酸。内源性 β-氨基酸，是甘氨酸受体的非选择性激动剂和G蛋白偶联孤儿受体TGR7（MrgD）的配体。 β-丙氨酸通量通过维持海洋生物、植入前小鼠胚胎和暴露于缺氧应激的哺乳动物细胞的渗透稳定性而发挥细胞保护作用。
