General description

GranuCult® prime Eosin Methylene Blue (L-EMB) Agar is a nutrient rich medium which is designed for the isolation, confirmation, and identification of Escherichia coli, and other Enterobacteriaceae from the food chain, cosmetic and other materials.
The synergistic effect of lactose and two indicator dyes, Eosin Y and Methylene Blue differentiates colonies of lactose fermenting and non-fermenting microbes. Growing colonies of E. coli produce a green metallic sheen due to high acid production from lactose. Other coliforms do not produce enough acid to attain the metallic sheen. The growing coliforms produce blue-black colonies due to the formation of eosin-methylene blue dye complex when the pH drops.
Peptones in the medium provide nitrogen, amino acids, and minerals to support growth. Di-potassium phosphate acts as a buffer and agar is the solidifying agent.

Application

GranuCult® prime Eosin Methylene Blue (L-EMB) Agar is used for the isolation, confirmation, and identification of Escherichia coli , and other Enterobacteriaceae from the food chain, cosmetic and other materials.

Other Notes

We offer two media types: the superior granulated GranuCult® and the cost-efficient powdered NutriSelect® culture media, depending on your needs.
The designations basic, plus, or prime are added to indicate the quality control level, from basic quality control to standard QC plus to prime for full regulatory compliance.
