CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta is a protein encoded by the CEBPB gene in humans. It is also referred as CRP2, IL6DBP, LAP, NF-IL6 and TCF5. It is a transcription factor that plays a crucial role in survival and transformation of gene in ALK along with anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). It is involved in the regulation of immune system and inflammatory responses along with other processes. CEBPB expression is essential for infiltrating macrophages for up-regulation of M2-specific genes and muscle regeneration. Its presence in muscle cells does not affect regeneration. It induces cell death in human breast cancer cells and stimulates autophagy.
