General description

2,2′-Thiodiethanol is a nontoxic water soluble embedding medium for optical microscopy. It is the hydrolysis product of sulfur mustard.

Application

2,2′-Thiodiethanol can be used:

• In the synthesis of luminescent polynuclear gold(I) phosphine complexes.
• To prepare Co(II) and Mn(II) complexes.
• As a reactant to prepare sulfone-containing polyurethane materials for electrophoretic applications.
