Ammonium metavanadate is widely used to fabricate cathode material for Li-ion batteries.

It can also be used as a precursor to synthesize various vanadium catalysts such as vanadium carbide and nitride catalysts for hydrogenation, hydrodesulfurization, and hydrodenitrogenation reactions.
