General description

Ytterbium(III) nitrate pentahydrate is a white hygroscopic salt. It is soluble in water and ethanol. It is widely used for the synthesis of ceramics.

Application

Ytterbium(III) nitrate pentahydrate can be used:
  • As a precursor to prepare Tb3+–Yb3+ co-doped CaF2 phosphors prepared by combustion synthesis.[1]
  • As a dopant to synthesize Cs2AgInCl6 double perovskite with optical functionality in the NIR(near infrared) window.[2]
It forms superhydrophobic ceramic coating by using Solution Precursor Plasma Spray.[3]
