Description

General description

Gold (III) chloride hydrate (HAuCl₄) can be used as a precursor to synthesize goldnanoparticles and p-type dopant for most conjugated organic molecules. Thedoping leads to the expansion of crystalline lattice and enhances conductivitydue to the formation of a large number of chargecarriers.

Application

Gold(III) chloride hydrate can be used to prepare TiO₂-supported Au-based photocatalyst by deposition-precipitation with urea. These catalysts show a higher amount and production rate of hydrogen via a water-splitting reaction.

Conjugate polythiophene films can be prepared by the solution-doping method using HAuCl₄ as a dopant. These highly conductive polymer films can be applied in the field of vapor sensing and organic electronics.

HAuCl₄ can be reduced to prepare gold nanoparticles by using different reducing agents like NaBH₄, glucose, and poly (propylene imine) dendrimer.
