Application

Ammonium-15N chloride has been used:
  • as a medium supplement for the incorporation of 15N in sporulation protein, CsfB, for NMR spectroscopy
  • in assaying nitrogen loss in marine sediment
  • for the incorporation of 15N in apolipoprotein A-I for mass spectrum analysis

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ammonium chloride is a component of the nitrogen cycle. Excess of ammonium chloride depletes ATP in astrocytes. Ammonium chloride inhibits the acidification in endosome-lysosome system. It is a hemolysing agent used in the lysis of erythrocytes. Ammonium chloride administration promotes creatinine and urea clearance in rat.
