We have studied the influence of solvent acidity on the aggregation/protonation behaviour of two charged tetraphenylporphyrins: positively charged tetrakis(N,N,N-trimethylanilinium-4-yl)porphyrin (TAP) and negatively charged tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (TPPS4). Spectroscopic measurements (absorption, fluorescence, excitation and photoacoustic) have been made to follow the radiative and

A direct colorimetric method is presented for simple and sensitive determination of serum zinc in 0.05-ml samples, using a cationic porphyrin, alpha,beta,gamma,delta-tetrakis(4-N-trimethylaminophenyl) porphine tetratoluenesulfonate salt (ttmapp, epsilon = 41.5 x 10(4) l/mol per cm at 421 nm). 7-Iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulfonic acid (Ferron)

A colorimetric method is presented for the accurate determination of serum copper in 0.1 ml sized samples, using alpha, beta, gamma, delta-tetrakis(4-N-trimethylaminophenyl)porphine. This new reagent has high sensitivity (epsilon 433nm = 5.1 X 10(5) l.mol--1.cm--1), it is water-soluble and has

Questions

  1. Is this dye water soluble? Give absorption maximum of this.

    1 answer
    1. Yes, it is water soluble. While we have not tested the upper limits of the solubility, we use water as the solvent for the spectrophotometric assay performed on each lot of this product. For a recent lot, approximately 6 milligrams of the powder was accurately measured and dissolved in exactly 100 mL of water, to give a solution that was 0.06 mg/mL. Then, a portion of that was diluted 10-fold, and the absorbance of the resulting 0.006 mg/mL solution was read. The lambda max for each lot is measured, and it is consistently in the range of 410 - 414 nm. (Concentrations as low as 0.002 mg/mL could be used.) Please see the certificate of analysis (CofA) for the lambda max as well as the measured extinction coefficient for each lot.
