General description

Triacetyl-β-cyclodextrin, a water-insoluble derivative of cyclodextrin typically formed by the substitution of a hydroxyl group of the parent compound with maleic anhydride (−OCOCH3), has been proposed to act as a sustained release carrier for some pharmaceutical compounds.[1][2]

Application

Invovled in studies of:
  • Controlled drug release of an inclusion complex
  • Biocompatible excipients for solubilization and deaggregation of cobalt bis(dicarbollide) derivatives in water
  • Extraction of aromatic amino acids
  • Emulsifiers
  • Polymerization initiation of cyclic esters
  • Sustained release matrix tablets

    1. Because this is triacetyl-β-cyclodextrin there are three acetyl groups per unit. All of the R groups in the structure are acetyl groups. Typically, an order needs to be ten times larger than the largest size offered in order to be bulk packaged and priced. In this case, that would be 100 grams.
