Application

Methyl (R)-(+)-2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolane-4-carboxylate may be used as a starting material to synthesize (2R)-[1-2H2]-glycerol, a probe to study the stereochemistry of glycerol metabolism in Streptomyces cattleya.[1] It may also be used to synthesize organic building blocks like (R)-2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutyl toluene-p-sulfonate[2] and (2S,8R)-2-amino-8-[(R) 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl]-8-oxooctanoic acid.[3]
