General description

Aminoguanidine hydrochloride has been reported in a study as inhibitor of animal nitric oxide (NO)-synthase.[1] Crystal structure of aminoguanidine hydrochloride has been investigated by Fourier and least squares method. Its crystals were monoclinic and the guanidine part of the aminoguanidinium ion is planar.

Application

Aminoguanidine hydrochloride may be employed as nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor to investigate its effect on the reduction of alveolar bone loss in ligature induced periodontitis in rats.[2] It may be used in the synthesis of 5-guanylhydrazone derivatives, having antibacterial activity against antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibits both constitutive and inducible nitric oxide synthetase.

Translation initiation is typically restricted to AUG codons, and scanning eukaryotic ribosomes inefficiently recognize near-cognate codons. We show that queuing of scanning ribosomes behind a paused elongating ribosome promotes initiation at upstream weak start sites. Ribosomal profiling reveals polyamine-dependent pausing

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

      Helpful?

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. Are aqueous stock solutions of aminoguanidine hydrochloride in water stable at 4 degrees or should aliquots be frozen?

    1 answer
    1. The solution stability of this product has not been investigated. In order to assure full activity it is recommended to prepare fresh. Other sources suggest that solutions in DMSO may be stored at -80 °C for extended periods. The literature indicates that Aminoguanidine is unstable in aqueous solutions for more than 1 day.

      Helpful?

  4. What solvent can Product 396494, Aminoguanidine hydrochloride, be dissolved in?

    1 answer
    1. This product is soluble in water at 50 mg/mL, yielding a clear, colorless to faint yellow solution. Heat may be required to get the material to dissolve at that concentration.

      Helpful?

  5. What impurities might be present in Product 396494, Aminoguanidine hydrochloride?

    1 answer
    1. Malononitrile and urea might be present in minute amounts.

      Helpful?

  6. Is there another aminoguanidine product suitable for cell culture?

    1 answer
    1. Aminoguanidine hemisulfate salt, Product No. A7009, is water soluble, so it may be worth trying. But we do not offer an aminoguanidine product that has been cell culture tested by Sigma-Aldrich.

      Helpful?

  7. At what temperature should Product 396494, Aminoguanidine hydrochloride, be stored?

    1 answer
    1. The material should be stored at room temperature.
