Triethoxy(octyl)silane (OCTEO) is a high-reactivity organosilane coupling agent designed for the molecular-level modification of surface
Its molecular structure features an 8-carbon octyl chain and three hydrolytically sensitive ethoxy groups. This architecture ensures the formation of stable, covalent siloxane bonds with inorganic substrates while providing a low-energy, hydrophobic surface with water contact angles often exceeding 150°.
In the realm of nanoelectronics, it serves as an essential "hydrophobization" agent, reducing non-specific binding and preventing water-induced charge leakage in sensitive micro-electronic components.

Application

As a high-performance alkoxysilane, OCTEO is used to engineer precise hydrophobic interphases and moisture-resistant layers in advanced diagnostic and electronic systems.
Semiconductor Passivation: Utilized to form dense, moisture-resistant Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAMs) on inorganic substrates like silicon and glass. These layers provide critical insulation and protection for semiconductor devices against environmental degradation.
Gas-Phase Biosensing: Employed in the fabrication of low-cost colorimetric sensor arrays. It stabilizes the porosity of sensor substrates, enabling rapid color changes for the real-time detection of toxic gases.
Biomolecule Immobilization: Used in the production of organically modified silane (Ormosil) nanoparticles. These nanostructures can encapsulate enzymes like horseradish peroxidase (HRP), preserving their activity for high-sensitivity biochemical assays.
Micro-patterning & Adhesion: Acts as an adhesion promoter between organic resins and inorganic micro-electrode arrays. Its ability to modulate surface energy is critical for the reliable performance of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and flexible bio-interfaces.

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.
