General description

The structure of gold chloride is monoclinic. It sublimes at elevated temperatures.

Application

Gold chloride was used to prepare open structures of gold nanoframes by galvanic replacement reactions. These Au nanocages find potential applications in surface plasmonics , surface- enhanced Raman spectroscopy, drug delivery, contrast-enhanced optical imaging and photothermal therapy. AuCl4 was used to wash sections in the Fontana-Masson picrosirius (FMPS) procedure in a study of simultaneous staining of melanin pigment and stromal collagen fibers.
