Application

Potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II) can be used:
  • As a precursor to prepare platinum nanoparticles and mesoporous platinum nanospheres with tunable pore sizes.[1]
  • As a catalyst for selective methane oxidation through C-H activation. In addition, to synthesize octahedral [email protected] nanocrystals with an ultrathin PtNi alloy shell. The nanocrystals exhibited better ORR activity and durability than the commercial Pt/C for fuel cells.[2]
  • To prepare Pt atomic clusters were synthesized using a one-step carbon-defect-driven electroless deposition method. These catalysts demonstrated low overpotential, high activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction, exceptional stability, and improved utilization efficiency of Pt. The Pt-AC/DG (Atomic Clusters/Defective Graphene) cathode showed excellent hydrogen production activity, remarkable stability, and significantly reduced Pt usage compared to the Pt/C catalyst.[3]
  • As a starting material to synthesize cyclometalated platinum(II) complexes with long-lived luminescence in solution.[4]

Features and Benefits

Reacts with bis(dithiolates) to form metal-bis(dithiolates) with applications in laser Q-switch materials, liquid crystals, optical CD recording media, bar code materials and superconductivity. Reacts with capping polymers to form shape-control colloidal platinum nanoparticles for catalysis and photocatalysts.

General description

Potassium tetrachloroplatinate(II) is a crystalline solid that is insoluble in water and soluble in organic solvents. It is widely used in the field of nanomaterial synthesis, catalysis, and energy storage.[1] [2]
