General description

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are quasi-dynamic materials which are commercially used for various biomedical, electrochemical and energy based applications. AuNPs are highly stable with properties like high surface to volume ratio, high conductivity, and low toxicity.

Application

Ideal for adsorption of thiolated ligands such as oligonucleotides and polyethylene glycols. Also, due to the increased stability, these gold nanoparticles are ideal for use in physical and optical applications. Note: This product is not ideal for protein adsorption. For gold nanoparticles suitable for adsorption of proteins and other ligands for conjugate development, please see our gold nanoparticles stabilized in PBS.

This material is highly monodisperse (<12% variability in size and shape), and provides significantly improved surface reactivity. Applications include Surface Enhanced Raman Lables, Sensing/Detection, Biological Targeting, Plasmonics and Electronics.
AuNPs can be potentially used in:
  • biomedical applications as a drug releasing agents
  • cancer radiotherapy due to their excellent surface chemistry and biocompatibility
  • electrochemical bio-sensing systems

Questions

1–10 of 21 Questions
  1. How long can I use this product after opening? Under appropriate storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. This product is supplied as an aqueous suspension. It can be stored at 2 - 8 °C in its original container upon opening.

Products that are robust in nature and extremely stable, in the original unopened container, are not assigned an expiration date or retest schedule. These products will have no dating reported on either the label or the Certificate of Analysis.

Products that are not assigned an expiration or retest date are covered by a warranty period of 1 year from the date of product shipment.

Full Product Dating Information may be reviewed at the link below: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/190/408/product-dating-information-ms.pdf?.

  2. What is the extinction coefficient/Molar Absorptivity of this product?

    1 answer
    1. For this product, the molar concentration is 9.93E-09 M. Based on an OD (optical density) of 1.00, the molar extinction coefficient is 1.01 X 10E8.

      Helpful?

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/418/501/product-dating-information-06-25-mk.pdf

  4. How do you concentrate the 10nm gold nanoparticles in order to increase its OD?

    1 answer
    1. There is no guaranteed method to concentrate this product, as doing so may lead to aggregation of the nanoparticles rather than an increase in optical density (OD). Aggregation can adversely affect the properties and performance of the nanoparticles.

      Helpful?

  5. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  6. How to calculate molarity of this Aunps solution?

    1 answer
    1. The molar concentration is 9.93E-09 M. This can be calculated using the weight concentration of 6.07E-02 and the molar mass of 6.11E+06.

  7. Hello,  I want to know if I can add CTAB (cétyltriméthylammonium bromide) to this solution and expect efficient adsorption with the AuNPs without interference with the already present stabilizer ? Thanks in advance

    1 answer
    1. There have not been previous attempts on adsorption of non-thiolated ligands to the surfactant stabilized gold nanoparticles. It is difficult to say to what extent the surfactant may influence the adsorption of CTAB to the particles.

Please test this by transferring 1 mL of gold nanoparticle suspension into a 1.5 mL centrifuge tube, centrifuge it at 17000 x g for 25-30 minutes, remove the supernatant, and resuspend the particles in a solution of water and CTAB (<1% v/v). If the sample appears to aggregate, then this will be a sign that the reagent is not compatible with the particles.

  8. at which concentration is the citrate buffer?

    1 answer
    1. This is a product of CytoDiagnostics, Inc. It is supplied in 0.1mg/ml citrate buffer supplemented with a proprietary stabilizing solution.

      Helpful?

  9. Is autoclave distilled water okay to use to dilute gold nanoparticle?

    1 answer
    1. Autoclaved, distilled water is suitable to use as a diluent for gold nanoparticles.

      Helpful?

  10. What diluent should be used to dilute gold nanoparticle?

    1 answer
    1. This product is prepared as a susupension in a citrate buffer. It can be further diluted with water. Avoid diluting further with buffers containing other electrolyte salts such as sodium chloride. Due to the gold nanoparticle surface charge, aggregation and color changes will occur.
