General description

Adenine, cytosine, thymine and guanine are the four main nucleobases found in nucleic acids DNA and RNA. Guanine is a purine derivative. It is reported to assemble into square-planar groups that resemble macrocycles, in which the bases interact via hydrogen bonds. In DNA and RNA, stretches of guanine bases are reported to form stable four stranded helices in the presence of sodium or potassium ions.[1] The electrochemical oxidation of guanine has been studied in aqueous media at various carbon electrodes.[2] It reacts with peroxynitrite under physiological conditions to afford 8-nitroguanine.[3]

Application

Guanine is suitable reagent used to investigate the mechanism of electrochemical oxidation of guanine and adenine using a glassy carbon microelectrode and cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry.[4] It may be used in the preparation of mixed-sequence peptide nucleic acid (PNA) monomers.

Questions

1–4 of 4 Questions
  1. Is this product a crystalline or an amorphous powder?

    1 answer
    1. The form of this product is identified as a powder.

      Helpful?

  2. What is the color of guanine in water solution?? What is the solubilty in water?

    1 answer
    1. The material is poorly soluble in water, a rate has not been established. This product is tested for solubility at 25 mg/mL in 5M HCl to yield a colorless to light yellow or yellow solution. The appearance of the solution is lot-specific and reported in the Certificate of Analysis. This material is also soluble at 15 mg/mL in 1N NaOH to yield a colorless to faint yellow solution.

      Helpful?

  3. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  4. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf
