General description

The Benchmark Scientific mini-centrifuge includes two rotors and six adapters, and it spins samples at 6,600 rpm (rotations per minute), making it suitable for a variety of micro sample sizes and protocols in the research lab. It comes with two interchangeable rotors. The first is a fixed-angle, six-place rotor for use with 1.5/2.0 mL micro tubes. The second is a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) strip tube rotor for use with either 2 x 8 PCR strips or 16 x 0.2 mL tubes. Additional adapters (6) are also included for 0.4 - 0.5 mL tubes. All tubes are sold separately. The centrifuge accelerates to its maximum 6,600 rpm then decelerates and stops within seconds for efficient operation. It has a clear, see-through lid for observing samples during the spin cycle, and an electronic safety cut-off that de-activates the centrifuge when the lid is opened. The mini-centrifuge is used for cell culture applications and separating cell lysates in a research laboratory.

The Benchmark Scientific BSC1006-B centrifuge operates at 115V/60Hz with a temperature range from 4 degrees C to 50 degrees C. It spins up to 6,600 RPM and is blue in color. The centrifuge measures 3.9 x 5.0 x 5.4 inches/10.0 x 12.6 x 13.8 cm (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)

A centrifuge is used to spin fluids of different densities to separate various parts, commonly blood and DNA samples. Centrifuges are composed of the main body or housing and a spinning rotor. Tubes of cellular material suspended in liquid are inserted into the rotor and spun at various speeds to separate components. Centrifuges are used in medical, industrial, and research laboratories, as well as academic and clinical settings.
