General description

NBD PG is a fluorophore having fluorescent 7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl (NBD) label attached to phosphatidylglycerol (PG). PG is the second most abundant surfactant phospholipid.

Biochem/physiol Actions

7-nitro-2-1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl (NBD) labeled fluorescence lipids are used to study the organization of membranes, micelles and reverse micelles. Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is involved in alveolar stability and plays a vital role in the regulation of innate immune response.

Pulmonary surfactant is essential for life and is composed of a complex lipoprotein-like mixture that lines the inner surface of the lung to prevent alveolar collapse at the end of expiration. The molecular composition of surfactant depends on highly integrated...

Lipids that are labeled with the NBD (7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) group are widely used as fluorescent analogues of native lipids in biological and model membranes to monitor a variety of processes. The NBD group of acyl chain labeled NBD lipids is known...
