General description

The SMC® IL-23 Immunoassay Kit contains all reagents required to perform the assay. This assay takes advantage of a standard immunoassay workflow configured in a standard plate format. Assay protocols are similar to existing sandwich ELISA methods with two key differences: 1) Elution buffer disrupts the sandwich, separating the labeled detection antibody for quantification. 2) The SMC® immunoassay system detects analytes using Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology.
Interleukin-23 (IL-23) is an endogenous cytokine responsible for the production of IL-17 from memory T-lymphocytes. The active human form of IL-23 is heterodimeric, consisting of a p40 subunit shared with IL-12, and a p19 subunit unique to IL-23. The p19 subunit is expressed by T-lymphocytes, activated macrophages, dendritic and endothelial cells. IL-23 also promotes upregulation of MMP-9 and the stimulation of helper T-lymphocytes to Th17 cells. The proinflammatory characteristics of IL-23 make it a target of interest for a number of Th17 autoimmune disorders, including Crohn′s disease, colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and psoriasis.
