Description

General description

Recombinant, mouse growth differentiation factor-8 (GDF-8)/myostatin propeptide, consisting of amino acids 25-285, fused at the C-terminus to a His•Tag sequence, and expressed in NS0-derived mouse myeloma cells. GDF-8 is a secreted protein that is expressed during embryonic development and in adult skeletal muscle.

Biochem/physiol Actions

ED₅₀ = 0.05-0.25 µg/ml (using 40 ng/ml rmGDF-8) as measured by inhibition of rmGDF-8 activity in K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cells. Approximately 1 µg/ml will completely inhibit GDF-8 activity in K562 cells.

Physical form

Lyophilized from 0.2 µm filtered PBS, BSA.

Preparation Note

Following reconstituyion refrigerate (4°C) for short-term storage or aliquot and freeze (-20°C) for long-term storage. Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 month at 4°C or for up to 3 months at -20°C.

Reconstitute to 50 µg/ml with sterile PBS containing ≥1% human or bovine serum albumin.
