General description

Mesitylene is a methyl-substituted benzene hydrocarbon, a specialty solvent used for research and industrial applications. Derivatives of mesitylene are used as colorant precursors to prepare organic dye intermediates such as 2,4,6-trimethylaniline.[1]

Application

  • Mesitylene is used as a:
  • building block to manufacture antioxidants, plasticizers, rubber, adhesives, etc.[2]
  • ligand in organometallic reactions[3][4]
  • developer for photo patternable silicones[5]
  • precursor to prepare a variety of fine chemicals[5]
