Application
Boron Trifluoride Methanol Solution 12-16% W/V can be used as a reagent to convert fatty acids into fatty acids methyl esters (FAMEs) by transesterification reaction. This step is used for the accurate analysis of FAMEs because long-chain fatty acids are highly polar and insoluble in organic solvents, whereas corresponding methyl esters are non-polar and thus can be extracted with alkanes (n-pentane) and easier to characterize and quantitate by classical analytical techniques.
