Description

General description

Leptin is a hormone that is secreted by the adipose tissue.[1] It is also produced by the gastrointestinal tract and placenta. Leptin consists of a four-helix bundle.[2] Leptin participates in regulating appetite, body weight, and energy expenditure. Excessive leptin is associated with cardiovascular complications like hypertension, coronary heart disease, and stroke.[1] The LEP gene is mapped on the human chromosome at 7q32.1.[3] Human Leptin "Dual Range" enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit is used for the non-radioactive quantification of human leptin in serum, plasma, and other biological media.
