General description
Parvalbumin alpha (UniProt P02625; also known as PV) is encoded by the Pvalb (also known as Pva) gene (Gene ID 25269) in rat species. Parvalbumin alpha is a small (a.a. 2-110; Met1 removed posttranslationally) calcium-binding protein. Parvalbumin alpha is composed almost entirely of two EF-hand domains (a.a. 39-74 & 78-110) and is structurally related to calmodulin and troponin C. Parvalbumin (PV) is present in GABAergic interneurons in the nervous system, especially the reticular thalamus. PV interneurons are a subset of inhibitory GABAergic neurons that control the excitability of post-synaptic pyramidal neurons. Dysfunction or loss of PV interneurons is implicated in cognitive deficits associated with a number of well known psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression.
Specificity
Clone 4E9.2 detects an epitope conserved among human, mouse, and rat species.
Immunogen
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to an internal sequence within the N-terminal half of rat parvalbumin.
Application
Immunohistochemistry Analysis: A 1:50 dilution from a representative lot detected Parvalbumin in human kidney, rat kidney, and mouse cerebral cortex tissue sections.
This Anti-Parvalbumin Antibody, clone 4E9.2 is validated for use in Western Blotting, Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin) for the detection of Parvalbumin.
Quality
Evaluated by Western Blotting in mouse brain tissue lysate.
Western Blotting Analysis: 0.25 µg/mL of this antibody detected Parvalbumin in 10 µg of mouse brain tissue lysate.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived neural stem cells (NSCs) have robust antiinflammatory and neurogenic properties due to therapeutic miRNAs and proteins in their cargo. Hence, hiPSC-NSC-EVs are potentially an excellent biologic for treating neurodegenerative disorders
