Gene Information

General description
Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 4 is a multitransmembrane non-selective cation channel encoded by the TRPV4 (also known as CMT2C, HMSN2C, OTRPC4, SMAL, SPSMA, SSQTL1, TRP12, VR-OAC, VRL-2, VRL2, VROAC) gene and belong to the OSM9-like transient receptor potential channel (OTRPC) subfamily within the transient receptor potential (TRP)3 superfamily of channels. Ankyrin (ANK) repeats/domains are shown to be important for functional channel expression, and ANK domain mutations are found in patients suffering from Spinal muscular atrophies (SMA, also known as hereditary motor neuropathies) and hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies (HMSN). (PMID 16293632, 20037587, 20037588).

Cells respond to physical stimuli, such as stiffness1, fluid shear stress2 and hydraulic pressure3,4. Extracellular fluid viscosity is a key physical cue that varies under physiological and pathological conditions, such as cancer5. However, its influence on cancer biology and the mechanism
NADPH oxidase 4 contributes to TRPV4-mediated endothelium-dependent vasodilation in human arterioles by regulating protein phosphorylation of TRPV4 channels.

Investigating macrophage plasticity emerges as a promising strategy for promoting tissue regeneration and can be exploited by regulating the transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) channel. The TRPV4 channel responds to various stimuli including mechanical, chemical, and selective pharmacological compounds.

PKD2 (polycystin-2, TRPP1), a TRP polycystin channel, is expressed in endothelial cells (ECs), but its physiological functions in this cell type are unclear. Here, we generated inducible, EC-specific Pkd2 knockout mice to examine vascular functions of PKD2. Data show that

Cardiac macrophages represent a heterogeneous cell population with distinct origins, dynamics, and functions. Recent studies have revealed that C-C Chemokine Receptor 2 positive (CCR2+) macrophages derived from infiltrating monocytes regulate myocardial inflammation and heart failure pathogenesis. Comparatively little is known
