General description

Ethylbenzene is a colorless liquid, which has an aromatic odor. It is widely used in the manufacturing of styrene and as a solvent. It is insoluble in water.

Application

Ethylbenzene may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in paints, engine oils, biological samples, water and air samples by various chromatography techniques. It may also be used as a standard to spike pump oil to form excellent standard generator for solid-phase microextraction (SPME).

The direct coupling between ionic liquid-based single-drop microextraction and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry is proposed for the rapid and simple determination of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes isomers (BTEX) in water samples. The extraction procedure exploits not only the high affinity...

GC Analysis of Xylene Isomers on SLB®-IL60 - The cresol (methylphenol) isomers are also precursors to many chemicals. This chromatogram of a mix of aromatic and methylphenol compounds was generated using an SLB-IL60 ionic liquid column. Its interaction mechanisms allow the separation of all three xylene isomers, and all three cresol isomers.
