Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide is a quaternary ammonium salt mainly used as a strong base and phase-transfer catalyst. It can be synthesized from tetrabutylammonium iodide.

Application

Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide solution (TBAOH) may be used in the following studies:
  • For the dissolution of 10wt% cellulose under room temperature conditions.
  • As a catalyst during the synthesis of 1,2,4-oxadiazoles.
  • Preparation of TBAOH salts of fatty acids.
