General description

Sodium salicylate can be prepared from the reaction of salicylic acid and ammonia. It exhibits fluorescence at higher concentrations and effectively absorbs β-particles. Due to these properties, it has been employed as fluor for the radioactivity detection in various gels.[1]

Application

Sodium salicylate may be used as phenolic reagent in salicylate method for the determination of ammonia.[2] It may be employed as a hydrotropic agent to study the release of anticancer drug camptothecin (CPT) from mixed micelles.[3]
