General description

p-cresol is a volatile phenolic compound, having a tar like odor, which is a metabolite of tyrosine and phenylalanine, mainly produced by the intestinal bacteria.[1]
This substance is listed on the positive list of the EU regulation 10/2011 for plastics intended to come into contact with food.

Application

p-Cresol may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in biological samples[2][3] by high-performance liquid chromatography and untreated air samples[4] using spectrofluorimetry.
