General description

Cetyl alcohol is a long chain alcohol, which can find applications as an emulsifying agent, emollient, viscosity increasing agent, foam booster and opacifying agent in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
This substance is listed on the positive list of the EU regulation 10/2011 for plastics intended to come into contact with food.

Application

Cetyl alcohol can undergo reaction with arachidic acid to form cetyl arachidate.
Cetyl alcohol may be used as an excipient for the determination of acyclovir in pharmaceutical preparations and tranexamic acid in cosmetic products by chromatography techniques.
