General description

Methyl palmitoleate is a methyl ester of the monounsaturated fatty acid, palmitoleic acid.

Application

This analytical standard can also be used as follows:
  • Simultaneous determination of fatty acids in bovine colostrum samples by GC-FID after their derivatization to ester forms using an acidic catalyst boron trifluoride
  • Fatty acid analysis of biodiesel obtained from Datura stramonium Linn. by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS)

Long-chain saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids differ in their propensity to induce beta-cell death in vitro with palmitate (C16:0) being cytotoxic, whereas palmitoleate (C16:1n-7) is cytoprotective. We now show that this cytoprotective capacity extends to a poorly metabolised C16:1n-7 derivative
