General description

Wright Stain, a modified Romanowsky stain, is intended for differential staining of the cellular elements of blood. It comprises polychrome methylene blue and eosin B.[1] Upon staining blood films with Wright Stain, the white blood cell nucleus and cytoplasm display characteristic blue or pink hues.

Application

  • Wright Stain is intended for use in staining peripheral blood smears and bone marrow smears.
  • It has been used to study the cytogenetics of human hematopoietic cells.[2]
  • It has also been employed in the karyotyping of human embryonic stem cells.[3]
  • It is also used for G-banding and helps in the analysis of poorly spread metaphases.
Reported to be superior to May-Grunwald Stain in blood staining.

Features and Benefits

  • The purified dyes in Wright Stain eliminate inconsistent staining and yield reproducible lot-to-lot chromogenic responses.
  • Reported to be superior to May-Grunwald Stain in blood staining.
  • Certified by the Biological Stain Commission.
