General description

Mouse albumin gene is mapped to mouse chromosome 5.[1] It codes for an albumin, which is the most prominent protein in the blood plasma.[2] Albumin is produced by the mature liver.[1] Mouse albumin gene promoter region includes minimum six binding sites (A to F) for specific DNA-binding proteins.[3]

Application

Albumin from mouse serum has been used in labelling by probe 2 for the characterization of matrix metalloprotease-12 by one-dimensional electrophoresis.[4] It has also been used for the preparation of calibrator and controls in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).[5]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Albumin facilitates the formation of cytoplasmic lipid droplets in pancreatic stellate cells and adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. In addition, it effectively regulates biological activity of adipogenic transcription factors, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR - γ ) and (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP).[6]
