General description

Phloxine B is part of the xanthylium class of dyes.[1] The stain is mostly used to determine cell ploidy and temperature sensitivity of Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Solid media is colored a vivid pink.[2]

Application

Certified for use in Mallory′s phloxine-methylene blue stain; Kreyberg′s method for keratin and mucus.
Phloxine B has been used as a component of yeast extract peptone dextrose (YEPD) to grow Schizosaccharomyces pombe.[2][3]
