General description

VOAS in Soil - Low Level - PT proficiency testing material is produced in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2010. This product is produced according to TNI requirements. However, please note, this sample may include non-TNI analytes as well. The PT portfolio allows our test components to offer significant performance data to monitor and prove competency to customers, accreditation bodies or both.

Supelco® is a global proficiency testing (PT) provider that manufactures best-in-class environmental and pharmaceutical PT products. We are the world leader in the manufacturing of real-world soil, sediment and sewage sludge PT products.

Type of PT Scheme: Solids/Soils/Hazardous Waste

Matrix: Soil

Analyte/s: Randomly contains a minimum 60% of the analytes listed. Values of analytes vary lot to lot.

All information regarding the use of VOAS in Soil - Low Level - PT can be found in the reporting packet which will be available to download at PT Portal.

Application

VOAS in Soil - Low Level - PT is a soil/hazardous waste proficiency testing material, suitable for testing volatile analytes in soil samples. Our soil PT samples behave as real samples; and, unless there is no alternative, are not simply spikes added to a blank soil. They are designed to meet the requirements of national, regional and state-specific accreditation bodies (TNI, USEPA, UKAS) for quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Features and Benefits

We have a vast portfolio of environmental PT schemes with "fit-for-purpose" samples to help you meet the needs of the laboratory.

Our proficiency testing (PT) program is a benchmark to:

  • provide staff with an insight into their laboratory′s performance, to verify the accuracy and reliability of their testing process
  • provide a comparison of performance with that of other laboratories, nationally and internationally
  • test and educate staff, provide a better understanding of the impact of incorrect results and identify areas where there may be problems
  • provide an independent evaluation of laboratory performance
  • demonstrate to clients, colleagues and accreditation bodies that there is a commitment to quality

Preparation Note

Description

Randomly contains a minimum 60% of the analytes listed

  • This standard consists of a 2 mL flame-sealed ampule containing the volatiles in Soil concentrate and a 30 mL ampule containing approximately 30 g of Matrix soil.
  • The solvent for the volatiles in Soil concentrate is Methanol.
  • This standard may not contain all the compounds listed on the Data Reporting Forms.
  • The evaluation of results will be based on study statistics as required by TNI standards.
  • This standard may not contain all the compounds listed on the Report Forms in accordance with TNI standards. For analytes not detected report as zero "0" or a "<" and your detection limit.
  • This PT sample is intended for methods USEPA SW846 Method 8240 and 8260 using purge and trap extraction (EPA 5035).

Sample Preparation

  • The sample is to be extracted using the solid waste method for sediment/soil using purge and trap.
  • Weigh 5.0 g of the volatiles in Soil Matrix into a sparger cell.
  • Carefully snap the top off the volatiles in the Soil ampule.
  • Using a 25-μL syringe, inject 20 μL of the concentrate into the matrix by placing the syringe tip slightly below the surface of the matrix in the sparger cell.
  • Immediately complete other sample preparation steps such as adding water to the sparger cell and closing the apparatus according to your analytical procedures.
  • Complete the analysis per your normal procedures.
  • Provide all the requested information; note that the results of the analysis are to be reported on a wet weight basis.
  • The method used must be reported.
  • Report on a wet weight basis, do not correct results for moisture content.

Storage and Stability

Please refer to sample label for expiration date, specific storage temperature, and specific storage conditions.
