Description

General description

Ammonium hydroxide solution is a solution of 30-33% NH₃ in H₂O. It is a colorless liquid having a strong characteristic odor. Electrolytic deposition of silver onto vitreous carbon electrodes from ammonium hydroxide solutions by the potential step technique has been reported.

Ammonium hydroxide is a weak base mainly used as a source to prepare other ammonium compounds like urea, ammonium carbonate and ammonium sulfate etc.

Application

Ammonium hydroxide solution may be used in the following studies:

• Preparation of magnetic nanoparticles.[1]
• To investigate the effect of substrate on the morphology of ZnS thin films by chemical bath deposition.[2]
• Preparation of amine functionalized cellulose nanocrystals (CNC-NH₂).[3]
• Wet processing of the GaAs(100) surface.

Ammonium hydroxide solution may be used:

• As a medium to prepare magnetite (Fe₃O₄) nanoparticles via a modified controlled chemical coprecipitation method.
• As a solvent and reagent to prepare 4-aryl and 4-alkyl-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydro-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylates via Hantzsch synthesis in a microwave cavity synthesizer.
